There's something about being in the Mediterranean during the summertime that puts me in the mood to wear head-to-toe white. Maybe it's the white-washed towns or the blazing dry heat that makes a white button-down, white swimsuit and of course, a pair of white shoes feel just right.  Below, a beach-to-town look inspired by the vibes of Puglia & Sorrento, with a few tips for places to check out if you go.

The Mule in White on the Beach in Puglia

to head to the beach in the mornings, the mule in white was worn with the straight one-piece by nu swim and the lucille round wicker basket from lisa says gah. layered over it was the veritas button down from aritzia. One beach i loved was punta prosciutto with its white sands, crystal clear water and rustic beach shacks. if crowds aren't your thing though, avoid it in the month of august!

above left, rocky beaches and fossilized sea shells in the town of torre santa sabina. above right, peaks of limestone trulli huts in the town of alberobello. these are an example of the traditional peasant dwellings that are scattered throughout the region.

above, in cisternino - the beach look transforms easily into a town look with the singular addition of a black slit skirt popped over the swimsuit. I loved how still the town was in the middle of the day--I enjoyed drinking caffe leccese (iced espresso with a shot of almond milk) in the main piazza at BAR FOD and eating some effin' good L'ERA GLACIALE

la taverna della gelosia in ostuni

another town to visit in Puglia is ostuni -- it is completely magical. the city dates back to medieval times and is often called la citta bianca, or the white town by locals for its white walls and architecture. I was charmed by the tiny artisan's shops & how all of the restaurants and bars in the town used the hidden alleys and terraces as intimate dining and lounge areas.  one particularly beautiful restaurant was taverna della gelosia , above right. it was perfect for a romantic dinner--with a bunch of friends.

we made a last minute trip to SOrrento, hoping to catch the ferry to capri. We missed the only ferry for the day and ended up taking a dip in bagni della regina giovanna, a hidden natural lagoon with an opening to the sea. afterwards we followed a long winding bridge to ristorante lido la solara  for lunch where we spent the rest of the day napping on its beach loungers while listening to downtempo house beats by the gulf that looks over at capri.

to finish the day and the vacation, we drove to naples in our beach clothes to have pizza at pizzeria di matteo. It was worth the 45 minute drive from sorrento and the hour long wait out front!
